Celebrate San Francisco Restaurant Week with
THE GRABHORN INSTITUTE & ARION PRESS
The Daily Menu: 1908 – 1965
Featuring a selection of Bay Area menus from the collection of William P. Barlow, Jr.
on exhibit beginning January 28, 2019. Daily menus embody the aesthetic, commercial, and
cultural history of printing in the Bay and virtually define what printers call a short run.
Before the advent of the laser printer, some restaurants—such as San Francisco’s Fly Trap—
maintained their own presses and printed their menus “after the fish came in” in order to adjust for
the day’s market pricing and supply. We invite you to visit our gallery where over 50
menus and related ephemera will be on display in conjunction with Restaurant Week.
