CALL FOR ENTRIES: Marin MOCA 11th Annual Altered Book Exhibition & Fundraiser

  • Marin MOCA 500 Palm Drive Novato, CA, 94949 United States (map)

CALL FOR ENTRIES: 11th Annual Altered Book Exhibition & Fundraiser April 25 - May 30, 2020
Interested artists may donate one book art object for the show. Proceeds support the exhibitions and programs of MarinMOCA.

DUE DATE: Donation agreement form due by Friday. Feb 14, 2020 sent by mail, email or hand delivery.

JURORS: Mary Austin, Co-founder of the San Francisco Center for the Book, and Donna Seager, of Seager Gray Gallery in Mill Valley will jury this year’s exhibition for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and honorable mentions. They will also present their highly-popular book arts talk at 4pm on opening day, Saturday, April 25.

ARTWORK: Altered Books use all or part of a book as the starting point for a new work of art. Final pieces can take many different forms including sculpture, collage, assemblage or jewelry as long as “the book” is evident in its final appearance. If you are looking for ideas, we recommend looking at past Art of the Book exhibitions at the Seager Gray Gallery in Mill Valley, CA for some excellent examples of book art that employs sophisticated techniques and concepts. Book Art Objects are books that have been created out of either traditional fine art bookbinding techniques, or unique materials and techniques. Our innovative past artists have turned to materials such as antique Japanese scrolls, fabric, wood, film negatives, and metal for their artists’ books.
