The Shape of Thought: The Book as Art

Shape of Thought: The Book as Art highlights works from The Bancroft Library’s rich collection of contemporary artists’ books and includes works from renowned local and international artists. It encompasses handmade books using a wide range of texts, illustration techniques, and formats. The books reflect many themes, including creative interpretations of poetry, prose, history, and science; responses to current political, social, and environmental events and issues; meditations on the vagaries of existence; and interrogations of bookmaking itself.

THE BANCROFT LIBRARY GALLERY is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed weekends and holidays), and is located just inside the east entrance of The Bancroft Library. The gallery is closed every weekend.

Free and open to the public. Open hours may vary. Please view the The Bancroft Library hours page for the most up-to-date information.
