This three-day class will explore binding structures using real stone veneer in the techniques created by Sün Evrard. This conservation structure is simple but is executed with a lot of care and attention to detail. Students will create one binding, and if time allows, we will explore uses of the stone as a decorative element for bindings or boxes. We will decorate the bindings by cutting into the stone and painting with acrylic. The pamphlet binding is sewn and then attached to the boards using copper wire as secondary sewing.
The Stone veneer product used in this workshop is the result of advancements of laser cutting techniques. The veneer is .2 mm thick slice of stone mounted on a thin fabric that can be folded, imprinted, cut and tooled.
