HBC 46 - 2018
Letter from the President
Our fall exhibition kicks off another year of programming for the Hand Bookbinders of California, and we anticipate that you’ll enjoy the spectrum of accompanying events. We are honored to be returning to the American Bookbinders Museum space for the 46th Members’ Exhibition, and we are grateful for the Museum’s generous hospitality to our organization.
It is inspiring to be surrounded by such fine examples of binder y equipment and ephemera. They provide historical perspective and contextualize our work, allowing visitors a fuller understanding of the craft.
I’d like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to those within our organization who have made this exhibition possible. We have a new Exhibitions Chair this year, Beth Redmond, who has been ably supported by her committee members, Servane Briand and Sarah Songer. We thank Ellen Reilly for her continued assistance with the design and print coordination for the catalog. We also extend our gratitude to Signa Judy Houghteling who continues her long-standing tradition of guided tours of the exhibition. All these people have taken time from their busy lives to keep this tradition going strong and the organization is truly grateful.
Member involvement is what keeps the wheels turning, and we are indebted to them all for their commitment. Year by year our membership numbers continue to increase steadily, and with our 50th anniversary on the horizon, we hope to encourage a new generation of binders. It is our intention to be inclusive to those interested in all aspects of the book, and to help our organization blossom with workshops, tours, lectures and retreats.
In response to the positive feedback surrounding programs earlier this year, we have scheduled several more over the coming months. Please visit our website, www.handbookbinders.org, for the calendar of events. We love our craft, and we invite you to join us. We hope you will benefit, not just educationally but also socially.
It is a joy to share our passion with like-minded friends.
